Cryptograms Privacy Policy

Cryptograms is a mobile word game. Core puzzles work without an internet connection. Optional game analytics and an online weekly leaderboard use online services. We do not show ads in the mobile app or ask you to create an account.

Progress on your device

The app saves levels, puzzles, hints, coins, IQ, streaks, collected art, settings, and a random leaderboard player ID on your device. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes local progress. We do not operate a cloud backup for mobile progress.

Analytics and error reports

Analytics and error reports are off by default. You may turn on “Share analytics” in Settings and turn it off there at any time. Your choice is saved on this device. Declining does not affect puzzles. When enabled and online, the app sends PostHog events about puzzle and control actions, time played, mistakes, hints, screens visited, load time, errors, and app version. Interaction diagnostics may include letter key choices. PostHog uses a random analytics identifier stored on your device and receives your IP address and standard request information through the connection. PostHog infers an approximate region from the IP address; the app does not request device location permission. These records help us improve the game and diagnose failures. We do not send full saved games, quote text, your email, or leaderboard display names to PostHog. We do not use this information for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Weekly leaderboard

When you score points or open the board while online, the app contacts our leaderboard service. Mobile score submissions contain a random player ID, an app-generated alias, the week's score, app version, and platform. The mobile board shows curated aliases and scores for every player, including entries submitted from other platforms. The service receives your IP address as part of the request. Board entries are scheduled to expire about five weeks after their week ends; service logs are kept for two weeks. The game remains playable if the board is unavailable.

Retention and your choices

Local game data remains until you clear app data or uninstall. We keep analytics records while needed to understand usage and fix defects, subject to our PostHog project retention settings, and remove records when they are no longer needed. App connections to these services use HTTPS, and we restrict access to the service records. To ask about data or request deletion, email support.cryptograms@superslop.net. Since analytics and leaderboard records use random identifiers and we do not collect your email in the game, we may need the relevant identifier to locate a specific record. We do not sell personal data.
